FELN statement in response to the formation of Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity

Washington, DC – President Trump signed an executive order establishing a Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity” today. The following quote can be attributed to Robert Brandon, President of the Fair Elections Legal Network:

This commission to investigate potential voter fraud is being led by two highly partisan co-chairs, one of which has a long track record of pushing voter suppression initiatives that have been successfully challenged in the courts. Rather than its stated mission, this effort would perpetuate the false idea that widespread voter fraud exists, and would breed distrust in our elections and discourage voters, especially young people.

We should focus on improving election administration that helps protect the integrity of our elections and facilitates better access to the polls. At a time when voting rates are at historic lows, we should be addressing the real issues to modernize our elections in order to increase participation.

The Fair Elections Legal Network (FELN) is a national, nonpartisan election reform organization whose mission is to remove barriers to registration and voting for traditionally underrepresented constituencies and improve overall election administration through administrative, legal, and legislative reform.
